Third Thursday Taize Prayer Service Beginning this Fall

Third Thursday Taize Prayer Service Beginning this Fall

On Thursday, September 20, step back from everyday life to be refreshed, and encounter God in the silence. No preaching or teaching, it is a gracefully simple service of contemplation in a prayerful setting, with scripture, prayer, song, silence and light. This service, on the third Thursday of each month, offers time (30 minutes) to make space for the words listened to and sung to permeate one’s being.

What is a Taizé Prayer Service?
Taizé is an ecumenical community located near the small town of Taizé, France. Brother Roger, who brought together brothers from all over the world, founded it in 1940. 6,000 people, mostly young adults, from around the globe are welcomed each week. This community developed a style of worship that reflects its commitment to peace, unity, and reconciliation. The worship is simple, beautiful, and more about praying and listening with the whole self than with the mind alone. As they gather, they sing together short simple chants that are repeated and interspersed with scripture and prayers — worshipers are able to open their minds and hearts to listen to God.
