After being ordained as a teaching elder to the ministry of Evangelism last Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Plainsboro (NJ), Rev. Kristie Finley has begun a new ministry called Abundant Grace Dinner Church. It is a mission supported by two Presbyterian churches in the Princeton area. The purpose is to bring all to the table—those who have never been invited, those who have been turned away, those for whom Sunday morning does not work or those who have been faithfully at the table.
As people arrive, they become part of the community preparing for dinner and setting the tables. They gather around the Christ Candle, and move to the table for the breaking of the Bread. Worship begins as they settle in to eat together and continues throughout the meal, and ends with the sharing of the Cup. Communion is served each time the group gathers. Fellowship and a sense of belonging develop as clean-up is shared. All are welcome at God’s table and Kristie feels blessed to shepherd this extension of God’s love through worshipping together as Christ modeled.
