Seeking First Presbyterian Preschool Director

For more than 50 years, First Presbyterian Preschool (FPP) in Lake Forest has been a faith-based, child- centered preschool dedicated to a play-based, nurturing early childhood education for children ages 2.5 through 5. FPP prides itself on being a leading preschool and resource for families in the Lake Forest/ Lake Bluff area.

FPP is seeking an experienced and accomplished Director with an early education philosophy that is compatible with the goals of the preschool, building upon its well-known and well-respected reputation of initiating a lifetime of learning for young children.

The Director should be a visionary leader with strong competency in navigating the changing landscape of preschool education, who promotes the development of each child’s social competence, personal empowerment, independence, creative and intellectual curiosity, and inductive and deductive reasoning strategies. The Director should have a strong interest and experience in the spiritual formation of children, and be motivated to nurture the relationship between the church and the preschool. The Director should know and be known to parents, creating a trusting relationship with each child’s family.

The applicant should demonstrate strong leadership skills to coach and mentor an experienced teaching staff whose average tenure is 10 years with the preschool. The Preschool Director will lead and support staff through teamwork, a positive attitude, and mutual respect to achieve individual and classroom goals. The applicant needs to meet and maintain the minimum State Licensing Requirements of DCFS and State of Illinois.

The Director is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Preschool including: curriculum development, staff hiring and management, parent relations, extended day  programs, marketing outreach and community relations, recruitment and enrollment, budget development and oversight, purchasing of supplies and equipment, and property maintenance. Other duties may be identified on an ongoing basis. The Director reports to the Pastor for Faith Formation of First Presbyterian Church.

A qualified candidate should possess:
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education or a related field
• Meets Illinois DCFS minimum standards for childcare director
• 3-5 years minimum teaching experience
• Program administrative experience preferred
• Computer, email and parent communication application proficiency
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Passion for connecting with and leading students and teachers
• Ability to understand and manage a faith-based preschool
• Active participant in a Christian church is highly desired
• Certification of CPR/First Aid
• Position subject to background check for finalist candidates

The hours for this position are 40 hours/week during the school year August 1 – May 31. Summer hours of 20 hours/week expected June 1 – July 31. The school follows Lake Forest District 67 Holiday schedule. Candidates will be chosen by a search committee comprised of parent and teacher representatives, and church elders. The final candidate will then be subject to confirmation by the Preschool Parent Board and the Session (elected elders) of the First Presbyterian Church.
