UPDATED MAY 6, 2020: Watch this video to see the impact of your donations to Beacon Place through our Food Depot. We continue to do weekly pick-ups of supplies to contribute to Beacon Place’s efforts in distributing necessities to the community, so we encourage you to keep dropping off donations when you can! If you have any questions, please contact Stew Kerr, Director of Mission, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Director of Mission Stewart Kerr introduces the First Pres Food Depot, one of the ways we are doing to help our local communities at this time. Watch the video to learn more, and see below for the list of supplies if you’d like to participate! Also check our future posts for other ways to help out alongside our Mission committee.
We will begin collecting food donations from interested church members to support the effective efforts of Beacon Place in Waukegan in distributing food weekly there.
We encourage members to purchase food staples when they do their own shopping for use at Beacon Place. At this critical time, they are providing weekly Emergency Support Packages for the families enrolled in their programs representing about 325 children and adults.
These weekly support packages include fresh and shelf stable food, education support for school aged children, and support activities for the families as they manage this crisis of isolation.
Many of these Waukegan neighbors have already experienced job loss and have little ability to buy or enhance their own supplies.
The following items are the most critical components of these packages and are most needed at this time.
SHELF STABLE FOOD:
- Pasta sauce
- Canned tomatoes
- Canned fruit
- Pancake mix
- Canned protein (tuna, chicken)
- Peanut butter
- Activity books
- Pads with pencils, paints and markers.
Church members may drop off donations inside the rear door to the stairwell which opens directly into the fire lane running behind the church from Sheridan to Deerpath. The outer doors will be unlocked in the coming days to accommodate this collection.
