Sunday School

We welcome children of all ages to worship every Sunday at 9 or 11 a.m. (10 a.m. during the summer, at the playground). The beginning portion of the service is planned especially to encourage families to worship together, and allows children to hear the day’s Bible story alongside their parents. Children may stay for the entire service or go to Sunday School or Confirmation Class after the Word for Children (at the 9 a.m. service only).

Sunday School for ages 3 through 7th grade allows children to explore the day’s Bible story in thoughtful and age-appropriate ways. Preschoolers use a “Godly Play” approach, which engages them in the story through peaceful storytelling, before inviting them to respond creatively.

Grade Schoolers often watch the story through a poignant and funny “Holy Moly” video before responding with conversation, activities, and often art. A weekly collection allows children to support on-going service projects, and joys and concerns allow us to build community by praying together and for one another.

Grades 5-7 begin to tackle more difficult subjects as they discuss the issues in their lives and learn how following God can help them make good choices.

Confirmation Class is a time for 8th graders to explore their faith, learn about the Christian and Presbyterian traditions, and grow in community with one another.

Contact Sarah Seccombe at sseccombe@firstchurchlf.org for questions regarding children through grade 4 and Pastor Sean Kelly at skelly@firstchurchlf.org for questions about children in grades 5 through 12.

Childcare

Professional, loving childcare is available in The Ark every Sunday morning for infants and toddlers up to 36 months old. The Ark is a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate space for children to begin experiencing God’s love through the care of our church family. We have an infant room and a toddler room where age groups may be separated for their safety and enjoyment.   Parents are invited to leave a mobile phone number with our caregivers so they can be notified if their children need them. Please note that we are peanut-free.
