Lake Forest, Ill. – April 24, 2015 – First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest’s annual Rummage Sale continues to top itself year after year in providing thousands of quality items at affordable prices, this year expanding the sale space on the church campus to accommodate an abundance of furniture. The sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 2 at 700 N Sheridan Road in Lake Forest.
“We have so many great pieces in a range of prices so that we can reach families at all income levels,” said Cynthia Hessemer, First Presbyterian Church member and Rummage chair.
The nine truckloads of furniture—from dining sets, bedroom sets, kids furniture and individual pieces—will be stocked on the Deerpath Road parking lot that was not used previously for merchandise. This adds hundreds of square footage to the already massive 40,000 square feet of shopping space. Additionally, Two Men and a Truck will be on hand to provide free delivery service for large or bulky items as far North as Waukegan, as far West as I-94 and as far South as Lake Cook Road. Delivery will be available until 7 p.m. and each customer can have a maximum of four pieces delivered.
The main shopping site for the sale will be the 40,000-square-ft church campus at
700 N Sheridan Road, Lake Forest. Staffed by more than 400 volunteers, the church collects thousands of clean, usable items throughout the year from clothes and accessories to furniture, antiques, electronics, appliances, sports equipment, décor, household goods and many more. Over the course of a year, volunteers collect, sort and organize these items to get them ready for the sale.
“Rummage would not happen without the hard work of our volunteers,” said Gale Strenger Wayne, First Presbyterian member and volunteer coordinator for Rummage. “Their commitment to the sale and its goal of enabling all people to afford needed, quality items while bringing in funds for our Mission partners is priceless. ”
Since its inception in 1950, this event has raised and given away more than $5 million to First Church’s mission and non-profit partners. Grants are awarded each year to over 40 local and global partner organizations that provide shelter and nutrition to families in crisis; enhance educational opportunities for at-risk students; and offer hope and wholeness to vulnerable and broken people.
“The Rummage Sale is a fantastic opportunity for church members and the community to connect,” says Rev. Dr. Christine Chakoian, First Presbyterian’s senior pastor. “It also sends precious dollars to agencies serving at-risk populations. It’s a wonderful sight to see.”
On the day of the sale, shoppers can park in the Lake Forest city lots and on the street, unless otherwise marked as a “no parking” zone. A free Rummage Sale shuttle will be available to pick-up and drop-off patrons from the city and parking lots. Cash, check and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard or American Express) are accepted at the sale.
