Children's Faith Formation
What to Expect
8:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. program year
9:30 – 11:15 a.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day
Professional, loving childcare is available in The Ark every Sunday morning for infants and toddlers up to 36 months old, and any other children in need for care during worship. Let your children play or snooze in a safe spot while you worship.
9 and 11 a.m. during the program year
10 a.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day
We welcome children of all ages into our worship community every Sunday as families gather together in the Sanctuary. A special Word for Children during the 9 a.m. service connects children with the sermon before they go to Sunday School. Worship bags in the lobby are available to help engage children during the service.
9:15 – 10:15 a.m. September 10, 2017 – May 20, 2018
We offer Sunday School for preschoolers and grade-schoolers during the program year. Preschoolers follow the Young Children and Worship curriculum while our kindergartners through fourth graders follow the Feasting on the Word curriculum. You can find out more about each program below.
We also would appreciate you registering for Sunday School so we have your child’s correct birthday and class as this would impact the e-mails we send to you and our ability to wish your child a happy birthday! If your address or other contact information changes, please update us by filling out the registration form. We appreciate having your family be a part of our Sunday School! You can find the registration form here.
Don’t forget to sign up for our children’s faith formation newsletter so you’ll be the first to know about the exciting things happening in our children’s ministry.
There are corresponding family take home cards as well and are available for easy pick-up throughout the church. These provide simple and meaningful ways to reinforce the day’s lesson at home. You can also find the week’s card online at www.firstchurchlf.org/ffb or by clicking on the card’s image to the right.
Preschool Sunday School
9:15 – 10:15 a.m.
Preschoolers tap into their natural sense of wonder about God and our Bible stories through the Young Children and Worship curriculum. Each week children listen to a Bible story told using wooden figurines, they wonder how people in the story felt, and then pray together. After hearing the story, preschoolers respond to the story in a way that resonates with them; they might work with the wooden figurines, draw a picture, read a book, or talk to a leader about their own thoughts on the story. Children choose what to do during the response time, allowing each child to learn about God in their own way.
Kindergarten - 4th Grade Sunday School
9:15 – 10:15 a.m.
We are excited to introduce a new curriculum for the 2017-2018 program year, Feasting on the Word. This lectionary based curriculum will teach the same scripture lesson throughout all the grades, but is tailored to the different age levels:
- Grades K-2 will have learning experiences that proclaim “You are welcome here! You belong to God and this church family!”
- Grades 3 & 4 will be encouraged to use their Bibles to dig into the stories to wonder “What does it mean to belong here?”
